ADEWALE ADESOKAN ESQ., LL.B (Hons),

Sunday Adewale Adesokan graduated
from the University of Lagos in 1986
and was called to Bar in October 1987.
He has been in active legal practice
since his Call to Bar. He practiced
at the law firm of Niyi Oyetunde &
Co. during his National Youth Service
in Jos, Plateau State. Upon completion
of his service he was given a permanent
appointment by the firm. He immediately
began to appear at the District Courts,
Magistrate Courts, Special Military
Tribunals, High Courts (Federal and
State) and Court of Appeal where he
conducted both criminal and civil
cases. The civil cases related to
recovery of debts, recovery of possession,
trespass to land, persons and goods
and wrongful dismissal, while criminal
cases that he handled included criminal
breaches of trust and causing deaths
by dangerous driving. He left Niyi
Oyetunde & Co. in December 1989
to join the chambers of Messrs. G.
O. K. Ajayi & Co. in January 1990.
He worked there till January 1996.
At G. O. K. Ajayi & Co. he was
Head of Chambers from September 1991
till his resignation in January, 1996.
He added regular appearances at the
Supreme Court and the Civil Disturbances,
Election and Arbitration Tribunals
to the category of Courts before which
he had been appearing. The subject
matter of cases that he handled also
expanded to cover corporate governance,
banking, oil and gas, copyright, patent,
administration of estates, matrimonial
causes and trade mark matters. He
was also exposed to documentation
of loan syndication agreements, preparation
and perfection of leases, tenancy
agreements and conveyances.
He has been Principal in the Chambers
since February 1996. In 1998 he was
sworn in as a Notary Public of Nigeria.
In 2003 he completed his Masters Degree
Programme in Law at Nigeria’s
Premier University – University
of Ibadan. In 2005 he was registered
by the Securities and Exchange Commission
as a Capital Market Solicitor. He
is Member, Chartered Institute of
Arbitrators (UK).
He is widely travelled. He has attended
many conferences and seminars. He
is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association
and the National Geographic Society
of the United States of America. He
is happily married to Mrs. Omonike
Adesokan (nee Akinsiku) and they are
blessed with children. His hobbies
are reading news magazines and autobiographies,
playing table tennis and cycling.
