OYO STUDENTS SET SCHOOL ABLAZE OVER MASSIVE FAILURE

The recent outbreak of violence among secondary school students in Oyo town to protest their massive failure after the government decision to raise the standard of education reached its climax today when some students of the Isale-Oyo Community Grammar School, Oyo allegedly set some of their school buildings ablaze.

The incident occurred early this morning after the concerned and aggrieved students mobilized some other colleagues and proceeded to the school compound to perpetrate these acts. It took the timely intervention of the men of the Fire Service before the fire was quenched.
As at the time of filing this report, Security operatives have been informed but the culprits were yet to be apprehended. The school compound appeared deserted as teachers and students have fled the area for fear of being harmed.
Some of the culprits were also seen with dangerous weapons and charms, threatening lives and damaging properties.

On Monday, we reported how some students of Anglican Secondary School also unleashed mayhem on their teachers and students. A student was allegedly stabbed in the stomach and as at yesterday, we heard the student had given up the ghost. About five of the culprits are in the police net now cooling off their feet.

Also, six students of Oranyan Grammar School, Oyo allegedly raped a female Youth Corps member yesterday. Details are yet to be filed but I am sure before the end of today, our investigation will reveal more.

Its disturbing to note these recurring incidents of secondary students unleashing mayhem on lives and properties keeps increasing and stakeholders are  advised to step in before these issues escalate.

Tears As MMM Finally Crashes in Nigeria - Premium Reports

It has been tears and more tears all morning in the City of Lagos after news filtered in that Ponzi Scheme, MMM, has crashed in Nigeria, resulting in massive losses for its many members, though details of the crash are still sketchy as no official report has been released.
image
It will be noted that only recently, the Zimbabwean and South African chapters of the MMM franchise also recently packed up, resulting in disbelief, shock and even suicide of some members who lost their life savings to the Ponzi Scheme. These events had led many to plead with involved Nigerians to “get out while they could”, a plea which fell on deaf ears.

Sources confirmed that the MMM shutting down equates to a mind-boggling loss of over $100million (which will not convert to Naira for the sake of our collective cardiac safety), money which gullible Nigerians had ‘invested’ in the scheme, hoping for 30% returns.

Correspondent who headed to Victoria Island to ascertain the reality of the crash was met by shocking images of men and women weeping on the streets, lamenting how they lost everything. Of particular note was a young man, Ufot Edidiong, who was rolling on the road, while passers-by tried to console him.

SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS ON RAMPAGE IN OYO TOWN OVER MASSIVE FAILURE

Recently, the Oyo State Government moved to tackle the poor academic performances of students by abruptly raising the general academic cut-off for promotion of students to 50% as against the initial 35%. This allegedly led to massive failure and the government, still resolute on its decision, insisted that the failed students must repeat a class.

This obviously did not go down with some of the secondary school students who have decided to take the laws into their hands by taking to the streets, vandalizing properties and threatening lives of innocent citizens, especially colleagues and teachers.

Such was the case on Friday, 21st October, 2016 when the students of Olivet High School protested the alleged massive failure. The students upon discovering that they failed massively pounced on some of their teachers. This protest also led to a part of the school fence being torn down. According to information at my disposal, over 600 students were involved in the massive failure. It also took the smart efforts of the school bus driver who immediately took off with the bus before it would be destroyed by the angry students. As at the time of this report, the bus is parked at a station.

The protest reached its climax today, Monday 24th, 2016, when some angry and concerned secondary school students also joined their colleagues to protest the decision. Popular among them are the notorious students of the Anglican Grammar School, Oba Adeyemi High School and Abiodun Atiba Memorial High School.

At Anglican Grammar School, the students had the weekend to prepare for the 'war' after collecting their results on Friday. Threats were made and even, threat text messages were sent to some of their teachers. They boasted to raze the school.

True to the words, the angry students came to the school this morning, harmed with dangerous charms and weapons. Some allegedly came in with guns, knives, cartons of bottles and amulets. One wonders where these young students could lay their hands on all these. They descended on students and teachers. They terrorized the citizens within the Ajagba environs, properties were vandalized, vehicles windscreens got smashed, purses snatched and people got injured. According to a source, an innocent student was allegedly stabbed in the stomach during the riot.

It took the combined efforts of the officers of the Nigeria Police and some vigilante members before sanity could be restored. Upon siting the Police, the protesting students fled the scene while only  one of them was unlucky and got arrested. Some identified students like 'Azeez Omo Iya Ponmo', Wasiu Tijani, Wakili, Ologbojo, 'Yinka and Kehinde Oparinde who partook in the breakdown of law are still at large.

Upon visiting the school, teachers were still in shock and some were standing about in groups. Students have deserted the school compound but the look of  violence was evident.

The case wasn't much different in the other two schools; Oba Adeyemi High School and Abiodun Atiba Memorial High School, both in Oyo town. The students also protested; colleagues were harassed and teachers were attacked.

According to a source, students of Oba Adeyemi High School came to the school brandishing loaded guns and other weapons.

Presently, some secondary schools who are yet to release the results are nervous and skeptical as the release could incite the students to cause violence.

I was able  to visit one of these other affected schools and I was lucky to interview one of the Vice-Principals. Here is the brief interview;

OmoIyaKunmi: I heard your students protested their massive failure in the exams. I don't see students failing as a new thing. It has always been happening, what is different now? Why are the students protesting now?

VP: Yes, it has been happening but in this case, the government abruptly raised the cutoff for promotion from 35% to 50%. This caught most of the students unaware and majority of them are caught in the mess.

OmoIyaKunmi: Ma, if I may ask, how massive is the failure?

VP: Haaa, its really massive. In a class of about 60students, we have just one students promoting into the other class. That's an instance. As it is now, the affected students are close to 700 in my school. Just this morning, the principal of another lamented that almost all  the students in his school couldn't meet up with the very strict guidelines for promotion into another class. Now, he is even scared to release the results to the students.

OmoIyaKunmi: But, don't you think the government is being insensitive to the students' plight. I mean, raising the cut off, isn't that too sudden?

VP: Hmmm.. We feel for the students too. What should have been done is that instead of suddenly raising to 50%, they could have raised to 40% from 35% and the subsequent sessions too. By so doing, the students would have been preparing against the failure.  We have approached the government to at least lower the standard a bit but they seem resolute on their decisions. Now we are appealing to the PTAs to come into this matter and appeal to the government.

Now, who are we to blame? the government that intended to improve the education quality by raising the standard abruptly without considering the students or the students who are products of the system and decided to take laws into their hands?

Sade Recognized Folahan immediately because he is still looking young
She narrated her ordeal to Folahan and how she's now using her life to serve God only.
She ended by saying *I am presently Single and ready to mingle with a man after God's heart*

And Folahan replied with "The man after God's heart for you is yet to come"

HOW THE POLICE MURDERED TWO BOYS IN OYO TOWN

As I begin this piece, I write with a mind full of anguish, disappointment and distrust. I am disappointed that the people chosen to protect and safeguard lives and properties have become the ones hell-bent on jeopardizing the objectives of the creation of the force. I am angry that the people who are supposed to be the friends of the people have turned to our enemies. The Nigeria Police Force is ridden with corruption, evils and more evils. The set of people who are supposed to maintain laws and orders are the ones enforcing lawlessness. What a shame! What a gross disappointment!

‘A child who says his mother will not sleep will not catch sleep himself.’

I have lost my trust in the Nigerian Police Force.
The Seized Van

HOW THE POLICE LIED ABOUT THE MURDER OF AN INNOCENT BOY

I visited the Durbar police station as a concerned citizen and an advocate for justice with three other comrades. I made my findings and calmly, I listened to the police side of the story without interruption. It goes thus;

‘A pick up van loaded with fire-woods was allegedly coming from Aawe road and was going through Kosobo, Hollywood hotel junction to connect with the Akinmorin road when it was intercepted by a team of traffic officers (three traffic warden and a conventional policeman) on duty in a car. According to them, they actually stopped the vehicle because it was carrying two young boys sitting dangerously on the woods. They asked the boys to come down and also demanded to see the driver’s driving license which he couldn’t produce. The driver was asked to drive off to the Durbar police station but he refused and went into the van to disconnect some cables. He was promptly arrested and taken inside the police vehicle. The motorboy was then asked to drive the van, and he obeyed promptly. A traffic officer was asked to sit with the motorboy and the two boys in the van. As they were going with the police car trailing behind, the motorboy allegedly lost control of the van and swerved off the road. The vehicle ran into a ditch and somersaulted. The occupants of the van (the motorboy, the two boys and the traffic warden) were allegedly thrown out of the van which had no windscreen.

This immediately attracted a mob that didn’t attempt to rescue the boys but wanted to lynch the officers, the officers immediately fled the scene after rescuing their colleague. A police patrol van was passing through that area at the time of the incident. The mob incident attracted them and when they got to the scene to assist the victims, the mob also descended on them. They also fled but one officer was left behind, Sergeant Amao. He was descended upon by the mob and asked to take one of the victims who had already fainted to the hospital. A bike man was flagged down and the policeman accompanied the boy to the hospital. On getting to the hospital, the boy was immediately taken on a stretcher to the emergency unit and it was then that the police officer discovered that the boy was his son. The boy later died.’

My people, that was the police side of the story as at yesterday morning. I was speechless because the story was too good to be true. I asked some questions and I got some disturbing answers. Now, let’s note some points here;

1.     The van was seized because of the two boys sitting dangerously on the fire-wood.
2.     The driver couldn’t produce his driver’s license.
3.     The driver of the van resisted arrest and this prompted them to order the motorboy to drive it.
4.     The two boys were also asked to sit in the vehicle with the motorboy and an accompanying traffic warden.
5.     The van had no windscreen and the occupants were thrown out the vehicle during the accident.
6.     The mob didn’t attempt to rescue the victims instead, they descended on the officers.

THE INVESTIGATION: THE DISCOVERY OF THE TRUTH

With my comrades, we left the station and proceeded to the scene of the incident. We were busy examining the scene and taking pictures when a guy on a bike, a friend of one of us, stopped and was eager to give us some information.
Myself, Adeyeye Sulaiman and Barr. Goke Esuola at the scene of the incident

Frankly, this report is based on over thirteen eyewitness accounts and I am telling you sincerely that there is no shade of doubt in this piece.

According to this guy, he was behind the police vehicle trailing the van after it was seized. He had firsthand information and was a true witness to the scene. He confirmed that the vehicle was seized when they asked the driver, an old man, to give them an amount he couldn’t afford. Other witnesses confirmed this.

Our investigation reveals that the traffic wardens patrol that area regularly and were already known for their notoriety. They picked that point to extort vans coming from neighboring villages and farms to collect from their proceeds. One Officer Jelili, ‘a yellow fever’ (traffic warden) leads the team. They are always seen on that route on daily basis. The vehicle they patrol with is a blue Nissan car. The team also includes a yellow-skinned lady. Their mode of operation is to seize the vehicle of an uncooperative driver and the driver would be asked to alight while one of the officers would be asked to drive off to the station. That’s how they have been working.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The ditch that the officer ran into
At exactly 10:38am on Thursday, 6th of October, 2016, a team of police officers including three traffic wardens and a conventional policeman were seen at the Kosobo Junction that links to Akinmorin via Hollywood Hotel junction.

An oncoming pick up van carrying firewoods was sighted by the officers. They immediately blocked the road and asked the driver to stop the vehicle. Truly, two young boys were seen sitting on the firewoods. They officers questioned the elderly driver while he had to carry these boys on an already loaded vehicle and he pleaded that he assisted the boys from Aawe.

The officers led by Officer Jelili (rank unknown) demanded for the the driver’s license which he couldn’t produce. This gave them an opportunity to demand for a bribe but unfortunately, the man could only afford a meager 200naira. This infuriated the officers and ordered that the car be seized.

One of them immediately went to the driver’s side and started the vehicle. Yes, an officer drove the vehicle! The driver was heard begging the officers to allow him drive as the vehicle’s brake is faulty and he was the only one that could handle it. But they ignored his warnings. Instead, the driver was also asked to sit beside him and the car was being driven to the Durbar station. The other officers also went into the Nissan car and were trailing the seized vehicle.

According to eyewitness accounts, the motorboy was left behind and he was heard shouting ‘Haaa… Brake motor yen o da ooo.’ (That motor’s brake is faulty ooo) He was also ignored.

The officer driving the van ran into a ditch and lost control. That was the genesis of the accident. This happened about a hundred yards to the Akinmorin junction where another team of policemen led by one Officer Okon regularly set up roadblocks to extort money from vehicles, even after roadblocks have been canceled.
The ditch
The traffic warden driving the van was striving to regain the control of the vehicle but according to the warning of the driver and his motorboy, the brake was faulty. He sighted his colleagues at the junction and didn’t want to hit them. Instead, he swerved into a nearby bush very close to the junction.

It was at this point that the van somersaulted. One of the boys sitting on the van fell off and hit his head on the ground thereby losing consciousness. This boy died before he got to the hospital.   The other boy was mysteriously under the vehicle and it took the combined efforts of sympathizers and onlookers before he was removed. I learnt this morning that he died yesterday morning too, though it’s still unconfirmed.

Spot where  the first boy hit his head on the ground and lost consciousness
The witness accounts revealed that the officers in the trailing vehicle immediately ran to rescue the colleagues and fled the scene. The sympathizers were not mobs. They wanted to help and if the officers had waited to assist them, maybe the boys would be alive to tell the tale.
The driver's cap and one of the deceased's sweater
The other team at the junction also fled the scene without assisting the victims but unfortunately, one of them, Officer Amao (the alleged father of the boy who died that day) was left behind. The sympathizers immediately seized him and asked him to flag down a bike to take the boy who had already lost consciousness to the clinic.

Unknowingly, the boy was actually his stepson.
It was the sympathizers that actually turned over the van to pull out one of the boys who was lying beneath it. It was the sympathizers that revived the elderly man after he fainted.

When these people protested, they got to Durbar police station and they discovered that the officers that fled the scene had already changed into muftis acting as if they were off duty. The only policeman on uniform was Officer Okoi who at that time was on duty as the station guard.

It was established that the officers led by Offficer Jelili actually extort commuters plying Kosobo-Akinmorin road. It is also established that a roadblock exists at Hollywood Hotel junction and on the day of the incident Officer Okon led the team that mounted the roadblock.

Kindly note that we have officer Okon and there is also one officer Okoi.

One other thing, Officer Amao isn’t the biological father of one of the deceased boys. The boy was actually his stepson. Shikena. So the police shouldn’t gain sympathy public sympathy through that.
Like I posted a couple of days ago, justice must prevail.

Investigation continues and we will ensure that the officers involved in this atrocities must be questioned and sanctioned.

The vehicle

Special shout out to the three other comrades who found time to pursue justice with me. Thanks so much Barr. Goke Eesuola, Adeyeye Suleiman and Ajeigbe Bolaji for being there.

INTRODUCING OYO READERS' CLUB IN OYO TOWN

INTRODUCTION
The need to resuscitate the reading habits among the people of Oyo State, especially the youths, informed the decision of some learned and intelligent Oyo people to start-up a 'Book Reader's Club in the town. As they say, 'When you stop reading, you stop learning', this singular quote drives this set of people who believe that competitive book reading culture must be re-inculcated into the lives of both the young and the old people of the town.

This 'Book Readers' Club' is a discussion group, which welcomes members to meet and discuss a book or books that they have been reading. This will also be a platform for members to share books as well as offer an opportunity to meet to discuss a book, either when they are finished with reading it, or after so-many chapters.

MODALITY
In the Book Club, we discuss books that each of us read on our own. The purpose of this club is to discover new fine books, as recommended by members, which would be otherwise missed. Books read can also be shared  with other members of the club.

The book club is free for all to join.

How often will the group be meeting?
Most book clubs typically meet once in a week and discuss one selected book per meeting. Since our group is not a regular reading group (because we don't select a book for all to read at he same time), we can have our meetings weekly, but the members can come whenever they like, without feeling they missed a thread.

When does the group meet?
The moderator assumes that members could mostly find time in the evenings, or after-work times, or weekends. So we start by meeting on Sundays and then see how it goes. As our group establishes we could adjust the schedule to the majority of members.

Please Join the Book Reader's Club
We meet weekly. Each of us joins whenever we have the time for it. Joining and participating in the book club activities is free of charge. At the meetings each member is asked to talk about recent books that he or she has read, and possibly recommend some. The members that don't like to talk, but prefer to listen what others have to say about books they read, they can do just that, of course.

There are no rules, just some guidelines that will be set on our first meetings. The moderator is very open to the ideas of the book club members regarding anything that concerns this group's purpose. The main point is to have fun with it, and share books and ideas with fellow book lovers.

If any of our members have written their own books, they are also welcome to share it with us in the book club.

As we progress, we will invite writers to present their books to us, and have a chance to meet them in person. It's always a thrill to find out the tricks of the trade, and hear the stories from the horse's mouth.

On weekly basis, there will be a moderator who will be in charge of the day's programme and venue selection. The moderator,  after each session, will write a summary on this web page, so that the others, who have missed it, could have an insight on what went on. Any of the members are welcomed to contribute, post their reviews and comments afterwards.

Hehehe... God, I seek your protection against the evil of temptation o.

And this pretty lady in a very tight jeans trousers showing the actual curves and a small top complimenting the bobbies walked into my office early this morning tightly urging a bible..

I quickly adjusted myself and in one of my most impressive tone said;

Me: Good morning, babe. How may I help you?

Babe: Good morning, bro. Please, I am Kemi from so and so church. I am here to preach the gospel to you.

*In my mind, I was like 'Hahahaha'. Laaro kutukutu, gospel??? Ema gba mi ke? Could be a set-up? Ko joor...

Me: Really? Can we proceed into the inner chamber of my office?

Babe: Nooooo, brother! Let's stay where people can see us.

Me: Haba, sister. You came to preach the gospel, you should have come prepared for this. I want no distraction during your ministration.

Babe: Brother, but there is no where the gospel can not be passed now. Lets talk where people can see us.

Me: Sis, if I may ask, how many people witnessed John the Baptist when he was baptizing Jesus? Abeg, enter the inner chamber of my office and minister to me in your sweet voice.

Reluctantly, Sister Kemi entered the inner chamber of my office to minister to me....

To be continued...
