FUNAAB STUDENTS GO BESERK OVER ROBBERY INCIDENTS, ONE STUDENT SHOT!

As at the time of compiling this report, the students of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) are presently on rampage over the recent cases of robbery within the school environment and the killing of one of the students by the police this morning during the protest.

The protest which was led by the SUG President, DENCO, started this morning over what the students termed insensitivity of the management to the plights of the students being robbed in recent times and the lackadaisical attitude of the Police to provide adequate security measures for students of the institution.

According to an eyewitness report,  the protest was allegedly triggered off this morning when two major hostels off campus were robbed and valuable properties belonging to the students were carted away by the robbers. The students, therefore, got provoked and blocked entrances to the school stating that there will be no academic activities until the school management writes a letter of commitment to the students off campus to show concern and that the Commissioner of Police Ogun State should be present.

While this was going on, it was discovered that the robbers have sneaked again into one of the hostels to perpetrate their acts. They were discovered by the angry students and one of them was caught while attempting to escape. This further infuriated the students who vented  their anger on the robber. They were about killing the robber when the Police were dispatched to the scene of the protest. While spraying bullets to scare off the students, one of the students was hit.

This led the students to become more violent as they confronted the Police not minding the consequences. It later led into a free for all between the students and the Police. One of the Policemen was caught and he luckily escaped lynching.

Presently, a large number of vehicles and valuable properties belonging to the institution and individuals are being destroyed...
