Exactly
on this day fifty-one years ago, a bouncing baby boy was born in the home of renowned
business tycoons, Alhaji Aleji Mudashiru and Alhaja Limota Mudashiru, of Oyo
town.
With
the determination to make sure their son acquires quality and sound education,
Kamil’s parents got him enrolled in Baptist Primary School, Koso, Oyo for his
primary school education between 1971 and 1977. The brilliant Kamil proceeded
to Isale-Oyo Community Secondary School between 1978 and 1983. While in
secondary school, he was known among peers and teachers for his good character
and intelligence. This, he proved when he passed his certificate exams in
flying colours.
Kamil
Akinlabi Mudashiru gained admission into the Polytechnic of Ibadan to study
Quantity Surveying in 1989 for the 2-year National Diploma. He also enrolled
for his Higher National Diploma in the same institution and graduated in 1993
with an upper credit.
While
in the institution, Hon. Kamil’s popularity among his colleagues earned him a
seat at the Students Representative Council (SRC) where he participated
actively in students’ welfare.
Hon.
Kamil was posted to Kano State to serve his fatherland. Here, he got an
opportunity to serve in a construction company, COSTA PATNERSHIP LIMITED as a
Project Manager. After the completion of the service, the bright chap was retained
by the management of the company after considering his efficient and tremendous
outputs.
And
so the young and focused Kamil Akinlabi Mudashiru began his sojourn to success.
He
worked briefly with COSTA PATNERSHIP LIMITED, Kaduna before relocating to Abuja
where he had an opportunity to serve in another construction company, KINGEEM,
also as a Project Manager.
Focused
and armed with the determination to succeed, Hon. Kamil established his own
outfit, APPARENT CONCERNS LIMITED, after many years of experience. He held
forte as the CEO before he delved fully into politics in 2005.
In 2007, Kamil was
elected to the House of Representatives on the ticket of the People’s
Democratic Party, (PDP) to represent the Oyo Federal Constituency, comprising
of four local governments namely; Afijio, Atiba, Oyo-East and Oyo-West. He was
a Sub-Committee Chairman of Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), a
member-House Committee on Environment and Deputy Chairman, House Committee on
Urban Development.
In 2011, he was re-elected
to the House of Representatives under the platform of the defunct Action
Congress of Nigeria (ACN) now All Progressives Congress (APC) and he was the Chairman,
House Committee on Youth Development.
Presently, he is the
Special Adviser on Legislative Matters to the Office of the Deputy Speaker,
Federal House of Representatives.
An ardent believer in
the emancipation of his people and his town as a whole, Kamil’s philanthropic
gestures in recent times and commitment towards the development of his town cannot
be over emphasized. This has made him win the hearts of his townspeople and
outsiders. Consequently, he is a recipient of many awards in recognition of his
prowess towards liberating his people and his many philanthropic gestures.

- Exemplary Leadership Award by OAU Muslim Alumni Association of Nigeria FCT, Abuja (2008)
- Meritorious Service Award by Oyo Forum FCT, Abuja (2012)
- Meritorious Service Award by Harmony Club of Oyo (2012)
- Meritorious Service Award by Faculty of Environmental Design and Management (EDM), OAU (2012)
- Youth Proficiency Award by National Youth Council of Nigeria, Oyo Zone (2014)
- The Great Symbol of Legislative Sovereignty by National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) 2014
- The Grand Commander of United Nations Youth (GCUNY) and Life Grand Patron by the Confederation of United Nations Youth (2014).
Professionally, Hon.
Kamil Akinlabi became a Fellow Member of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity
Surveyors in 2008 and was also elected as a Corporate Member of the Institute
in the same year. He is also a Fellow Member of the Chartered Institutes of
Commerce of Nigeria (FCICN).
Happily married with
children, Kamil is a God-fearing, generous and humble person. He loves to
travel, read, meet people of note in the society and has a penchant for sports,
especially football.
